Séminaire : « Understanding Russian Space: An Essay in Structural Analysis », avec Helen Petrovsky, organisé par CORUSCANT
18 novembre 2024
Coruscant is pleased to invite you to its new seminar presented by Dr. Helen Petrovsky, former head of the Department of Aesthetics at the Institute of Philosophy of the Russian Academy of Sciences and currently affiliated with Université Sorbonne Nouvelle.
Dr. Petrovsky’s lecture will explore the dual dynamics of Russian spatiality, bridging mythology and abstraction through the conceptual lens of viscosity. Drawing from structuralist and post-structuralist traditions, the analysis examines space as oscillating between chthonic rootedness—an earthly, mythological connection—and a tendency toward the denial of representation altogether. This framework reveals the coexistence of transformative surface phenomena and deeper spatial resistance. While rooted in philosophical inquiry, the approach also engages with the political dimensions of space in wartime, illuminating its resonance with narratives of “national grandeur” that shape collective consciousness and deflect a sense of shared accountability.
